SH67 (New Zealand)

The SH67 serves the north west corner of New Zealands South Island. It starts on the SH6 at a TOTSO fork a couple of miles south of Westport and heads north in to the town, following the west bank of the Buller River. The route then splits as it reaches the town, the mainline turning right to cross the river, while a spur, the SH67A turns left to follow the coast out to Cape Foulwind. The mainline winds through the grid-iron town streets of Wesport, heading eastwards along the coastal plain. After leaving Westport behind, it runs alongside the railway for around 5 kilometres or so, before crossing and meandering inland.

The road re-crosses the railway at the small village of Waimangaroa and turns to run alongside once more for over a dozen kilometres to the small settlement of Hector at the mouth of the Ngakawau River. Across the river, the road follows the coast, trapped on the narrow ledge between sea and steep forested hillside to the north branch of the Makinihui River. The road turns inland here, following the south bank of the river towards Seddonville, but before reaching the town it turns again to cross the bridge. The SH67 comes to an end on the north side of the bridge, but the road continues a long way up the coast, serving the scattered communities to the north.
