Spittals Interchange was junction 23 of the A14. It is a signalised roundabout interchange with the main line of the A1307 running underneath.
When it was originally constructed, it was a staggered diamond interchange[1] to provide access to the single carriageways of the A604 to the west and A1126 to the east. The junction was upgraded to a roundabout interchange at a later date, with the A604 eventually becoming the A14 as part of the A1-M1 link and renumbering of the old A14 as the A1198.
When the A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon improvements opened, the main line under the junction became the A1307, while the left arm of the roundabout towards Brampton Hut became an extension of the A141[2].
Upon completion of the works, the old A14 main line under the junction was narrowed from D2 to D1.
