St Michaels is a tiny village set about a staggered crossroads in north east Fife. The junction is a TOTSO for the A914 (former line of the A92), which approaches from the south west, passing under the railway and then turning left as the A919 comes in from the right. A short distance to the north, the B945 turns off to head for Tayport. Even without the geometry of the junction, it is likely that the A919-A914 line would get priority as it is the main route between St Andrews and Dundee, while the A92 further north is the main Trunk Route taking traffic from the Tay Road Bridge across to the towns of central and southern Fife.
