Strathaven Roundabout is a junction between the A71 and the A723 to the south west of the town centre. It is a mini roundabout with the A71 following a roughly east-west route, while the A723 comes in from the north east at a slight skew. To the south west, the B743 heads off at an even sharper angle to the A71, although it does not reach the roundabout, instead it is turned to meet the A71 at a T junction a few yards from the main junction. Historically, the junction was a very skewed crossroads, but the roundabout has been in place for many years.
One curious aspect of the junction is that between 2016 and 2021, the kerb blocking the closed up end of the former B743 line was removed, as was a build out where this stub meets the mainline of the B743. The railings, however, remain in place to block traffic. It is not clear why this was done, it may have simply been to facilitate some roadworks, or it might have been a trial to give the B743 an exit from the roundabout (it seems highly unlikely that traffic from the B743 would have been allowed to approach the roundabout on this line).
