The Strensham-Solihull motorway was designed to relieve the D2 section of the M5 from Junctions 4-8. Other options considered were to built a Strensham to Coventry motorway, however the idea of linking with the M42, rather than the M69, won out. This is the earlier option, via Evesham. It was rejected as it went through prime agricultural land and didn't serve the new town of Redditch well enough
