Tavelty Junction is a dumbbell interchange at the north end of the A96 Kintore Bypass. It was opened in 1998 with the completion of the bypass, and allows the dualled A96 to connect with its former route through Kintore, now numbered as the B987, although frequently erroneously signed as the B977. Each of the sliproads is a single lane, climbing close to the mainline of the bypass, with either a narrow hard shoulder or extra wide nearside hard strip, depending on your definition. The short connecting road under the dual carriageway is a single carriageway, making a very compact layout. The B987 then curves to the south east to pick up the old A96 line outside the newly reopened Kintore Station, with the old A96 to the north repurposed as a cycle route which then runs alongside the dual carriageway.
To the east, a minor road curves north west to a junction, providing access to the cemetery and a quarry site.
