The Telford Street Roundabout is the start point for the A862, where it leaves the A82 and heads west around the Beauly Firth. In the past, the only classified road to run through this junction was the A9, but since the opening of the Kessock Bridge in 1982 that route now stays east of Inverness. However, it was still some time before the A82 reached the roundabout, although the A862 number does seem to have been applied to the former A9 route straight away. Indeed, it was c1986 with the opening of Friars Bridge across the River Ness that the A82 was re-routed through this junction, presumably with it being rebuilt as a roundabout at about the same time.

In addition to the A82 and A862, there are two further, unclassified, exits from the roundabout. Wells Street leads east down to the banks of the River Ness, while Harrowden Road leads south into the large estate of Dalneigh which is one of the older parts of the Highland Capital. After a 60-odd mile gap from the Fort William bypass, the A82 becomes dualled once more as it heads north from this roundabout all the way to its northern end on the A9 at the Longman Roundabout.
