Three Mile Cross Interchange is junction 11 of the M4, a roundabout interchange, connecting to the A33 and B3270.
Redevelopment
The junction went through a major upgrade in 2010. Two new four-lane overbridges were built over the M4 in parallel to the existing bridges, and the old 2-lane bridges converted into a bus lane and a footpath / cycle path. The B3270 was given an unhooked right turn, to allow traffic heading into Reading bypassing the roundabout.
Two new signalised junctions were also constructed to replace a roundabout on the A33 Swallowfield bypass, and the northern approach to the M4 junction redesigned. Huge gantry signs help guide traffic round the junction. A police depot and a Highways Agency compound had to be demolished and relocated to make room for the redesign.
