Tibbets Corner is a grade separated roundabout interchange in south west London.
It was built as a six-arm roundabout covering Kingston Road, Wimbledon Park Side, Victoria Drive, Princes Way, West Hill and Putney Hill. The A3 was later upgraded and grade separated, with this junction being replaced by a new roundabout to the west.
A peculiarity can be found just to the north-east of this junction on the A3. The Road, having just gained a lane from a slip road to bring it back to 3 lanes, is short lived. This is because the dual carriageway A3 ends shortly after gaining this lane, meaning 3 lanes all just merge into 1, a very rare sight, especially for such a major route. A new bus lane has now been added for lane 1, but 3 lanes still merge into 1, with one of them being the bus lane. This is the case because the A3 was meant to be extended to meet the Ringway 2 in Wandsworth, but the last stretch of the dual carriageway A3 would only be built after Ringway 2 was built. The A3 would have met it at the proposed Wandsworth Interchange, however no drawings of the plans survived, so we can only speculate what this last stretch would have looked like.
