Timber Basin Roundabout lies at the heart of the industrial area around Grangemouth Docks, and indeed provides the primary access point to the docks. The name comes from the former Timber Basin, the innermost of the docks, which lies immediately to the north of the roundabout. The A904 provides a direct connection south, between industrial sites, to the M9 motorway, and then turns to cross the railway into the town centre of Grangemouth itself. The roundabout has 6 arms in total, two for the A904, the docks entrance and the other three leading into the surrounding industrial estates.

The roundabout was built in the late 1970s or early 80s to improve access to the docks area, and lies to the west of the original line of the A904. Part of this old line survives as access and car parking for the Falkirk Council Depots between the roundabout and railway, accessed directly from the junction. The northernmost exit from the roundabout leads to the main gate to the port, although this is out of sight round a bend, while the remaining two exits lead into the surrounding industrial areas.
