Torrance Bridge carries the A807 over the River Kelvin just south of the village of Torrance. The bridge is a fairly ordinary single span concrete structure apparently dating from the 1970s, which carries a two-lane carriageway with a pavement on the north east side.
Old Bridge
The site is clearly an old crossing point, and photos online show a single stone arch bridge spanning the river here in 1965. On one bank, a smaller semi-circular flood arch stands in the field, with a rounded cut water on the bank between the two to protect the pier. The parapet has a slight peak over the arch, although the string line below looks flatter. It is not clear which side of the bridge is in the photos, but the abutments turn to 90 degrees from the bridge at the piers.
