Treherbert is a community in the Rhondda Valley in South Wales. It is notable as being the first place in the Rhondda reached from the A4061 Rhigos Road. Despite there being more significant places in the Rhondda nearby such as Treorchy or Porth, it is the sole signposted place from the north, such as on the A465 or A4059.
First developed as a mining village located beside the dead-end route leading to the Blaenrhondda Colliery, Treherbert's situation was transformed with the completion in November 1929 of the Rhigos Mountain Road from Hirwaun, opening up access from the north. Unlike other redevelopments further down the Rhondda, the road network around Treherbert has not notably changed since then.
