There have been two wholesale renumberings of the Tyneside area, centered on Newcastle upon Tyne. Both of these relate to movements of the A1 - first from the centre of Newcastle to the Tyne Tunnel on 1 April 1977, secondly from the Tyne Tunnel onto the Western bypass in the early '90s.
