The Uttlesford Tourist Route provides alternatives to the M11 in Essex: between Bishops Stortford and Stump Cross via the B1383 (old A11) and between Great Dumlow and Stump Cross on the B184 (old A130). The concept is like that of business routes in the USA, whereby old roads bypassed by freeways have signs promoting them as alternatives in order to mitigate the impact of a loss of passing trade.
The tourist route is named after the district of Essex it passes through, and only appears on two signs. The road is signed either with a brown sign with a Visit England Tudor Rose, or just the rose symbol on regular flag signs.
