Warren Hill Junction

Warren Hill is a strange hybrid between a fork and a roundabout which connects the A614 and A6097. The A614 route is given priority throughout, with a pear-shaped island in the centre allowing for circulatory movements. In practice, while there is a link to allow northbound A614 traffic to double-back south on the A6097, this is rarely used, so it is only the A6097 traffic which has to give way at the junction, once for turning south (again unusual) and twice to continue northbound.

Both sides of the island are provided with two lanes, and while southbound this allows for the split between the A614 and A6097, northbound the A6097 currently has to give way to two lanes of traffic at a right hand merge.

Future

In October 2020, plans were revealed to improve this junction. The A614 northbound would be reduced to a single lane, with the right hand lane for merging traffic from the A6097, removing this give way and so easing traffic from the A6097 into the main traffic flow to reduce a congestion point. In order to safely facilitate this, the current turning slip at the north end of the junction will be closed up. The small amount of traffic wishing to double back from the A614 to the A6097 will therefore either need to continue a mile further north to the roundabout at White Post, or cut through on the B6386 near Calverton, which most of it probably already does.

The A614 - A6097 is an important primary link between Mansfield and West Nottinghamshire and the A46 and Leicestershire, bypassing Nottingham to the east, and crossing the Trent at the only bridge between Newark and Nottingham. These improvements will therefore help improve traffic flows over a wide area.
