Warrenpoint is a small town on the coast of South Down, linked to Newry by a dual carriageway. Warrenpoint has a small port with over 2 million tonnes handled annually. Seatruck run a scheduled freight crossing to Heysham in Lancashire.
There have at various times been plans to build a bridge over Carlingford Lough to Louth in the Republic of Ireland
