Weighbridge Place is a square to the east of Liberation Square in the centre of historic St Helier. It lies at the head of the old harbour, and takes its name from being the former home of the Weighbridge used to measure goods coming into the docks. Today, however, the name also relates to the complicated road junction which has been built to the south, extending out over the end of the Old Harbour, on land reclaimed many decades ago.
The main purpose of the junction is to split / merge traffic at the eastern end of the dualled A1. The two onward options are the A17 which continues east through the St Helier Tunnel, and the A16 which turns south to the eastern part of the docks area. This fork is signalised, although access to the tunnel is freeflowing from the A1. Whilst there is a short left turn sliproad from the A17 to the A16, there is no complimentary right turn from the A16 to the A17, as this would be lightly used and disruptive to the main traffic flows.
A little to the west of this main junction, there is a left turn from the eastbound A1 carriageway. This is the former start point of the A3, although it appears that the route has been curtailed further east. The exit lane doubles back around Liberation Square as part of a one-way system, whilst the onslip only accesses the A17, as it is too close to the necessary fork to cross lanes for the A16
