The Wrestler's Bridge was a brick arch bridge that carried the A1000 Great North Road across the East Coast Main Line about 400m north of Hatfield railway station. It takes its name from a near by public house, situated just to the north. The bridge collapsed in 1966 after works carried out on the railway below. The road bridge was not replaced because the bridge collapsed shortly after the south Hatfield link road was opened (now A1001), which linked the Great North Road with the A1 (now A1(M)). Consequently this section of the Great North Road was no longer of strategic importance and the bridge was not rebuilt. Instead it was replaced by a footbridge.
The A1000 was eventually re-routed along its present route.
