The C1M is perhaps one of the most scenic C roads in Aberdeenshire, leading as it does to the Linn of Dee west of Braemar. The route starts on the A93 in the centre of the small town, and heads west, following the south bank of the River Dee, albeit some way up the side of the valley at first - offering great views. The road drops to the river bank before Inverey, where it dips south to cross the Ey Burn, but stays on the flat valley floor. Returning to the river bank, the Linn of Dee Bridge is soon reached, which the road crosses and doubles back, heading east along the north bank of the river. A large forestry car park is soon found, and then the road continues east, passing behind the spectacular Mar Lodge, before coming to an end at the Linn of Quoich. Estate roads continue east beyond Braemar to Invercauld, where they meet the A93, but they are only open to walkers and cyclists.
