The C38B is a strange collection of routes in Peterhead, and also includes a lengthy route outwith the town. Starting, then, at Kinknockie on the A952, the C38B travels north east for around 8 miles, passing through the small village of Kinmundy amongst others, to meet the A90 bypass. It then enters Peterhead as Kinmundy Road, becoming Cairntrodlie before meeting the A950. So far, so sensible.
Moving in to the town centre, the C38B also includes St Peter Street, which runs from Errol Street to Port Henry Road (including a short section of North Street), and also Queen Street and Chapel Street which cross it. This was previously part of the A road system in the town centre, prior to the construction of the bypass. It is not a huge stretch to see this section as forming part of the route in from Kinknockie. However, the same cannot be said for the last part of the C38B. This consists of Windmill Hill, Catto Drive and Hay Crescent to the north west of the town centre. Whilst these three roads do just about connect with each other, they do not form a sensible through route, and have no connections with the rest of the C38B.
