Looking east along the Upton bypass, opened 1975, where the A350 joins the A35 for a mile or so, before heading into Poole along the Holes Bay road. It used to go straight across into Poole via Hamworthy and Upton, until 1988.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Nov 01, 2007 by AAndyThe westbound crawl near Dorchester. The sign is a No Right Turn, although, as there are toilets here, many ignore it. Hold-ups also on the M5, A30, A303 and A66, partly due to accidents.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jun 22, 2008 by RichieGrahamThe first divvy of 2010, which I caught as it happened. Heading for Poole, we were taken off at the A350 rbt, because of ice related accidents and sent into Upton, which was solid all the way to Poole. I turned back along the old A35, stopping for this pic.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jan 04, 2010 by SteveA30This was bypassed in 1975 and, is now the B3068.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jan 04, 2010 by SteveA30The e/bnd side reopened, allowing me to continue to Poole unobstructed. However, this caused the diverting w/bnd traffic to back up, as the A35/A351 rbt now had a stream of traffic heading for the D2, blocking off their exit from the old road. See a map for clarity.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Apr 07, 2009 by SteveA30Old A35, Tolpuddle. The union will have something to say about this. Closure was from about 1pm to 8pm

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Nov 23, 2008 by SteveA30Half a mile further east, the 2 roads separate. Originally an S2/1, the new route was later narrowed, causing slow traffic behind lorries/caravans.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Nov 23, 2008 by SteveA30Turning round, we see the old road coming up from the layby area but, hidden from the new road.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Nov 23, 2008 by SteveA30Continuing up the deviation via a steep hill, this is the view east. Modern A35 visible in distance.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Nov 23, 2008 by SteveA30The old road passes underneath the new and, up the south side. Double white lines clearly visible.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Nov 23, 2008 by SteveA30It rejoins the new, with a dead end beyond. All this was done around the early 80's
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Nov 23, 2008 by SteveA30The point where the A35 meets the old A30, where westbound traffic, heads east for a short distance, to join the bypass.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Nov 03, 2008 by SteveA30The tight rbt. effectively makes a hairpin bend.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Nov 03, 2008 by SteveA30Although this is the old A30, the A35 never ended here, because it was the A373 until 1967, just after the A30 bypass opened so, by the time it was renumbered, the A30 had already moved out of town.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Nov 03, 2008 by SteveA30Looking east at the A35 westbound after the Dorchester bypass was closed for a couple of hours by an accident, one of several around the country on that day. This bridge connects the old road with the new. The old A35 goes through the trees on the left, although you wouldn't know it from here.
