Re: M181
I just have to ask why... I mean it's daft enough that the M181 exists to begin with, given that it's just a spur to the M180.
So we put an island mid way down with an AP road, making the island AP, and give the "cut off" section of M181 another number, which appears only to be temporary?
I get there are paperwork issues with despecialising it, but this was done with the A6144M and potentially the A601M...
It's all a bit pointless as you can U-turn at the M181/M180 island anyway

C, E flat and G go into a bar. The barman says "sorry, we don't serve minors". So E flat walks off, leaving C and G to share an open fifth between them.

You'd have a job to. It's a free flow trumpet junction, not a roundabout.ForestChav wrote: ↑Thu May 06, 2021 22:13 It's all a bit pointless as you can U-turn at the M181/M180 island anyway

Re: M181
So would the second roundabout be built where the B1450 Burringham Road crosses the M181? If that is the case, then the stub left would probably be no longer than the stub at M4 J7, which does not have its own number (although I'm sure I read somewhere that at an earlier stage of planning it would have been numbered) and one could guess that the whole of the existing M181 north of Burringham Road would become the A1077, and to the south would just be slips of the M180.

Re: M181
Bearing in mind the cluster-F that was the DN7 link road at Doncaster Services also being wrongly signed as a motorway recently it makes me think this HE Area is incompetent in the extreme.

Re: M181
Came north this morning from M180 J3. Just before the new roundabout there are the new 50 limit roundels. Below them are clearway signs with a 1 mile plate underneath (surely you don't need to sign a clearway on a motorway?). Then on leaving the roundabout to continue north to Frodingham Grange there is a new directional sign clearly signing A1077(M).....
Re: M181
Is the A1077(M) section all under a 50 limit, in that case?XC70 wrote: ↑Fri May 07, 2021 08:20 Came north this morning from M180 J3. Re: M181
Just another update on the signage.. the M181 chopstick sign has today been replaced with a blue A1077(M) chopstick sign at the start of the motorway at the northern end. Couldn't get a photo today though..
I have also read on a local Facebook page that on the A1077(M) northbound it is now signed with with both 50mph and clearway roundels though I cannot personally confirm this.

That is correct.delinquentwoody wrote: ↑Fri May 07, 2021 20:02 I have also read on a local Facebook page that on the A1077(M) northbound it is now signed with with both 50mph and clearway roundels though I cannot personally confirm this.

Definitely northbound yes. With repeaters on the lamp posts.Chris5156 wrote: ↑Fri May 07, 2021 18:03Is the A1077(M) section all under a 50 limit, in that case?XC70 wrote: ↑Fri May 07, 2021 08:20 Came north this morning from M180 J3. Southbound I think yes but I am not 100 percent certain.
Re: M181
At the new start of the M181 heading south there is the mother and father of all directional signs looming large!
And another thought. I am not at all sure that the new roundabout is going to be all purpose road. I am wondering if it might stay under motorway regs.....

Re: M181
Just looking at the north end of what was the M181 and now is some silly AxM on GSV... What exactly is this?

Hopefully that garbage has already been ripped up or will be soon

Bizarre re. motorway regulations on the roundabout - why the new route number if so?

Re: M181
Yes, so it's clear from Jeni's video there that the motorway ends at the roundabout, which at least is something....!

A few things:
1. *jumping with excitement even though I live 3 hours away from this place and have never gone that way*
2. Steven, here’s a bit of pressure! You know why!
3. The presence of permanent signs as opposed to just stuff on A-frames makes me think that this pathetic little motorway is here to stay...?

Though roads may not put a smile on everyone's face, there is one road that always will: the road to home.
Re: M181
I guess the signing on it isn't complete just yet.
At 0:35 there is still the old motorway ends in 1 mile, even though it ends in 200 yards.
At 0:47 surely the clearway isn't for 1 mile, does there even need to be a distance given since the clear way is likely only for the roundabout, unless the roads off the sides will be clearways too for a mile?
Also the M181 DLS are still in situ, although they don't strictly need to be changed since the A282 has DLS which call it the M25.
Also not sure why the ADS for the northern roundabout has the A18 in either direction as primary arms, but the A1077 as a minor arm. Surely the A1077 to the north sees more traffic (15k) than the A18 to the west (8k).
Also... From the northern roundabout onto the A1077(M) as already pointed out the flag sign is majorly wrong, but there is also a clearway sign beyond the start of motorway sign, this time without a distance.
Also.... It seems like quite a few of the signs have the wrong fonts.

Re: M181
I'm convinced this road is going to be permanent. Seems like they're putting a little too much effort into a "temporary" road. Usually roads that are only meant to be temporary get patches on the signage rather than shiny new signs altogether.
For comparison, the A74(M) has much worse, obviously temporary intended patched signage ready for when it was meant to be renumbered as the M6

Re: M181
I love the clearway signs heading north with a simple "1 mile" plate.... So many questions as to the placement of that sign!

Re: M181
As much as I’m excited from a SABRE POV, it seems a bit crazy to ditch pedestrians and cyclists from a 1 mile direct route from a massive development to the local retail centre. I just can’t see it being permanent myself.SBRoxMan wrote: ↑Mon May 10, 2021 03:33 I'm convinced this road is going to be permanent.
