They are fingerposts which were not affected in 1964. Nearly all the others had an arrowhead which is the essential feature to spot.

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
the Settle/Burton-in-Lonsdale area is another still rich in surviving pw signs, with clusters in those two places. The 4 in Burton have all been posted, but I think only one of the Settle/Giggleswick 5 (at least) that are within walking distance.
Here are the Giggleswick trio;

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
Here are two in Settle, close to the Market Place. One is clearly lovingly restored. The other, sadly, appears to have been attacked by anti-brexiteers, and needs a little TLC.
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
I was lucky to spot this one a couple of years ago, near Ingleton; It has now gone.
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
I have trained both my sister and brother-in-law into spotting pw signs, and they saw these elderly signs at Gayle near Hawes.
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
..and here is one in much need of a lot of TLC! It's on the minor road signposted above towards Kettlewell.
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
here's an interesting one as it's not Pre-Worboys as it was installed in the last few years but it is in the style of Pre-Worboys.
also here is one https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.90154 ... authuser=0 that was renovated.

Don't know if this is already on this thread but I spotted this today: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.85995 ... authuser=0
Also looks like there was one underneath showing the destinations that were to the right.

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
The sign that used to be in the broken wooden bracket was probably a direction sign to Leeds & Bradford Airport, which is only 2 miles away. There were loads of those blue, back and white signs in the area in the late 60s when I was taken through it regularly from Leeds to (the original) Harry Ramsden's fish shop, but I think they have all gone.
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
Forgive me if I'm wrong but is this a 40mph repeater that is pre-worboys on the A214 Trinity Road?

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
No, that's just a grotty Worboys-era sign, but probably quite old. In pre-Worboys examples the vertical and diagonal of the 4 join with a pointy top. There are still a few around, though I can't find one easily.Skipsy wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 22:39 Forgive me if I'm wrong but is this a 40mph repeater that is pre-worboys on the A214 Trinity Road?

I've previously posted real photo's of the ones i know still exist in my neck of the woods but here are the links of some 40's (and 30's for that matter) in close proximity near Ellesmere Port, Wirral. The first here https://www.google.com/maps/@53.2927528 ... 312!8i6656 off junction 8 of the M53 and these up the road down a side street off the A41 in Eastham https://www.google.com/maps/@53.3183497 ... 312!8i6656Chris Bertram wrote: ↑Tue Jul 13, 2021 12:29No, that's just a grotty Worboys-era sign, but probably quite old. There are also some well documented ones just over the Mersey along Mather Ave, Liverpool that were still there as of a few months ago.
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
Not a repeater, but there's one quietly sitting just off the A217 near Banstead, complete with ancient Clearway.Chris Bertram wrote: ↑Tue Jul 13, 2021 12:29No, that's just a grotty Worboys-era sign, but probably quite old. Jumping to the most recent image shows it's been given a whack at some point. Probably gone now though!

Unexpected find in Cleckheaton, far more urban than most of the places old signs have survived.

The post might be original but the arms aren't, sadly - all the text is in the font Arial, which only dates back to the 80s.the cheesecake man wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 22:11 Unexpected find in Cleckheaton, far more urban than most of the places old signs have survived.

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
Snapped these on the B2100 near Rotherfield in East Sussex. I knew about the one on the house but the other was unknown to me until a few days ago! Seems it was buried in vegetation until recently.

I don't know if this one has been shown before, but it is on the B4576 at Rhydfudr, a few miles south of Llangwyryfon:

I also spotted what I think is a pre-Worboys route confirmation sign on the A40 leaving Scleddau southbound - a few miles south of Fishguard.

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
A little group from the south side of Birmingham. The small one refers to the Highways Act so clearly not council issued as they use bylaws. The cyclists sign had three on the road originally, I knew one had recently gone but was highly relieved to find just this one standing as I think it's the last in the country. I went specifically for that but spotted the others on the way back.
