Absolutely, never seen that one before, and survived the yellow bordered A40 sign in Shepherds Bush (the only one left to my knowledge) which was gone by the time I checked around 2009.TS wrote: ↑Sun Aug 08, 2021 01:34
I also spotted what I think is a pre-Worboys route confirmation sign on the A40 leaving Scleddau southbound - a few miles south of Fishguard.

Another first, with a second on the other side presumably with the arrow facing the other way. It's the same format as the pedestrian subway signs, and I do have a p-w concealed entrance sign in Kent without an arrow.
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
The Blandford Road ones have been gone a couple of years now as the whole road is now 30.Nicholas wrote: ↑Sat Sep 22, 2018 14:56There are also a number on the side roads leading off Lower Blandford Road, about 2 miles south west of the Merley examples above.hburden wrote: ↑Fri Sep 21, 2018 09:52 In fact, I’ve just checked on GSV and the majority of side roads from Queen Anne Drive onto the housing estate retain the same set up with the old signs.

They were absolute beauties, because they had the 40 on the other side of the same sign.

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
I spent a day in very rural Co Durham yesterday which I thought might give rich pickings. Sadly all I saw were a couple of village signs, and a red triangle atop a gloriously manky 'modern' sign.

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
This is not a sign, but it's too tiny to have a thread of its own, I think - and I guess it is pre-Worboys! I've always known it since moving to Bournemouth in 1986. It's on the crossroads of Castle Road and Muscliffe Road, and until fairly recently had an old cast-iron embossed MUSCLIFF ROAD nameplate, which had had an E painted on, unembossed, when the spelling of Muscliffe changed.
Can anyone tell me what sort of age it might be?

I don't think this sign here is as old as the styling would suggest but it's a lovely specimen nonetheless
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
Spotted this today. Was this a recognised layout even in pre WB days?
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
A recent visit confirms that the area around Lockerbie in southern Scotland is, indeed, a rich source of PW survivors.
The small town of Langholm can possibly boast the greatest surviving concentration of free parking signs, namely;

...and there are these two on the way in from the North and West.
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
Two of the signs near the village of Hightae have been posted before, but there is a third, and here they are.
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
This was posted on page 41 of this forum by Elliot Matthew in 2012, with sign and hedgerow in pristine condition and what appear to be daffodils growing in the verge.
Alas the area is now much overgrown, and the sign has been dislodged side-on, so directing A75 traffic along the hedgerow! but at least it is still there, east of Dumfries.

One of these two was posted a while back, from Claygate; Here are both.
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
...and here is a very pleasant surprise, on the english side of the border, but in the same area.
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
Did you see this sign on your travels? I took this 19 years ago so it may no longer be there.
How would you like your grade separations, Sir?

Warning/hazard pillar with just a hint of the black-and-white banding remaining but the reflective pieces in the disc are long-gone.
There is another pillar to the left of this one but only a stump of it remains.
