Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
It's nice when you come across something unexpected. I found this pre worboys style (non stud) 30mph repeater recently just west of Mold, North Wales.
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
While we're on PW 30MPH signs, here's a brace of repeater signs (I assume) from the village of St. Martin's, near Oswestry. They are on either side of the pole.

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
There are several pw signs at the main road in St. Martin's, they are still there...
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
..there is a fourth which was clear a few years ago when I photo'd it, but it is now overwhelmed by vegetation! So enjoy!!
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
This complete set of very ancient signs is at Shocklach, near the Worthenbury signs posted on page 98. They are similar to the ones at Appleton Thorn (page 99), they seem to be a Cheshire area speciality, I'd love to know more about their erection but that might be beyond living memory. The lady standing by the "preserved" one lives in the house there, she's called Melanie, and she painted up the sign a few years ago just to make it look better. Well done!!

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
The two previous signs are at the east end of Shocklach village, these are at the west end.

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
Here's an interesting one in nearby Malpas. The bottom destination looks fine, but the top line looks a little odd.
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
These three are north of Abergavenny, just off the Hereford road. They were taken at night. The first looks preserved, the second could do with some TLC, and the third has been buried in the vegetation; It's there somewhere...
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
The three wonderful 1930's signs in Leominster are still there, but there are a couple of other gems.
If you follow Martin's shop round the corner (to the left of the first photo) from the north sign you find this one, not strictly a pw sign, but probably of similar age.

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
..and if you follow the Corn Street sign a short distance to the Market Square you find this.
Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
Finally for now, one at Anchor, on the Shropshire-Wales border.

Llanthony 71! In fact it's a smear on the sign. Llanthony is just 7 miles up the road.Bazzerpfr wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 21:14 These three are north of Abergavenny, just off the Hereford road. Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
The top one looks like it's hand painted and wasn't originally part of the sign. The road from Malpas to Nantwich is unclassified, and appears to have always been so - in which case, this would have been one of those PW signs that had a big gap at the top because there was no road number. Road numbers were emphasised on PW signs to such a degree that many signs pointing down unclassified roads had, by design, a big space to show that there was no number at all, and there was several examples of them in the regulations which suggested that it was considered good practice. In this case, someone has come along, seen the big empty gap, and helpfully inserted another destination.

I discovered this wonderful wooden sign in the village of Islip, near Thrapston, Northants, in March 2019. I am delighted to discover than not only is it still there, but it has been lovingly restored! It looks like the sign is a new piece of wood, but it is a very faithful restoration. Here are the photos, old and new, the new one is Jan 2022 taken at night.

Some great ones there Bazzerpfr.
I picked up on this one below from a FB group and was in the area last week. Still standing on a public road in Neston, Wirral.

Nice one there, Rambo, that's my favourite of all those that have been recently* posted as it's quite a busy design. I wonder if there are any more of these left in the UK, surely there can't be many? I'll have to have a drive over and have a look at it.

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
I know of one near to Montrose, albeit not quite of the same design.

Re: Pre-Worboys preservation campaign
I was pleasantly surprised to see this pre-Worboys route confirmatory sign on the A322 heading north out of Bagshot.
I hoped to take a photo on the way back through but, while I could safely have pulled off the carriageway southbound, it was too busy for me to be happy to cross on foot!
