Every year the millions of Red Crabs that call Christmas Island home make their annual migration from their burrows to the sea to lay eggs for more Red Crabs. The crab fenders on the Toyota made me giggle!

The Park Rangers have built underpasses and a Crab Bridge to enable the creatures to cross the main highway safely.

Re: Christmas Island Red Crab Migration
I've seen the article about the crab bridge before - it is certainly interesting. There are a few hedgehog tunnels under UK roads. This mesh on the South Eastern Freeway in South Australia (where I am from) is a koala ladder. Being noctural they could easily wander onto the road and become trapped by the barrier. I don't know how often koalas use the ladders, but I used to travel this road quite regularly, and I don't remember seeing any dead ones. There was the odd squashed wallaby.
