Identical columns used to exist in parts of North Shields until the noughties, mostly in the west of the town, and with lanterns that probably dated back to the 1950s/early 1960s.

Re: Concrete Lamp Posts
I've just been watching one of those dashcam videos on YouTube which from street name signs I spotted was shot recently in Langley Avenue, Worcester Park, London and there was a number of concrete lamp posts visible - here's a GSV view from last year:

Lovely! LB Sutton seemed to hold on to concrete columns and orange sodium much longer than most.DavidB wrote: ↑Thu Jun 22, 2023 20:02 I've just been watching one of those dashcam videos on YouTube which from street name signs I spotted was shot recently in Langley Avenue, Worcester Park, London and there was a number of concrete lamp posts visible - here's a GSV view from last year:

Off topic slightly...skiddaw05 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 01:28 Some in Clacton, though newer lanterns unfortunately
Happier times
I was wondering what the one way signs were doing there, given it didn't look like a one way road.
So I scrolled back and found out it was indeed a one way road, but seemingly the slip road is pointless, because you aren't allowed to use it...
Also, what is the point of this no entry sign? If you see it, you've already driven the wrong way down a one way street...

Re: Concrete Lamp Posts
I think you kind of answered your own question: there is a greater than average risk of driving the wrong way as it doesn't look like a one way road and there are several frontages. Poor signage did once contribute to me driving the wrong way down a one way street. I only realised my error when approaching a junction so u-turned to save driving any further in the wrong direction. I see the sign here as damage limitation. Possibly the sign was installed due to an incident.Jonathan24 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 17, 2023 00:11 Also, what is the point of this no entry sign? Some nice old ones on the B4092 in Studley, Warwickshire. As these have been LED fitted, hopefully these should be in place for a considerable time to come

They went to the effort of sawing the brackets to make them side entry rather than just removing them and fitting post top lanterns.Worcestershire Wolf wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2024 20:16 Some nice old ones on the B4092 in Studley, Warwickshire. You might also be temped to do a hairpin right turn at the splitter island if coming from the left.swissferry wrote: ↑Mon Jul 17, 2023 22:06I think you kind of answered your own question: there is a greater than average risk of driving the wrong way as it doesn't look like a one way road and there are several frontages.
