'New' AARoads wiki (since Dec 2023)

Post by graeme_t »

This just popped up on my usual trawl round the internet: AARoads have started a wiki (since Dec 2023), because they've been having serious problems with Wikipedia and its rules, some of which echo the issues that SABRE has had in the past regarding sourcing and notability:

The new wiki is a fork of the info on Wikipedia, but is being added to by the AARoads people themselves so will diverge pretty quickly, IMO.

Wikipedia is literally the worst medium for road studies. It doesn't allow original research, and no-one else has properly documented roads history so nothing is going to please their admins.

Indeed. There's a reason the SABRE Wiki exists, and it's because it's by far the best way to host information about the UK and Irish road networks.

Ahem, I'm an admin on Wikipedia and am the primary contributor to the M25 and A303 articles over there. But you're right, most roads are not documented in sources acceptable over there, so they shouldn't exist. The subject of highways has, for whatever reason, been plagued with jerks for decades, which is probably why most of the articles I've written are about other things.
