Inexplicable too, as the M66 already existed when this was installed!

This no right turn sign in Morriston, Swansea has seen better days and it's lost it's illumination.

That's actually the design of light - the "Mr Floppy" of the sign lighting world. Odd that the red roundel has faded but the bar is almost pristine!

Re: Manky Signs
Different material for the bar, perhaps? I know an old Jackson County (Alabama) shield I own has had the yellow border and text printed onto the shield fade to white but the yellow numbers stuck onto it have remained a bright yellow.Nathan_A_RF wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2024 21:58 That's actually the design of light - the "Mr Floppy" of the sign lighting world. Probably busy documenting grade crossings in the southeastern United States.

I saw the light on the 2012 Streetview and assumed it'd fallen off or was knocked off. As you can tell, my knowledge of such matters is not very good!Nathan_A_RF wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2024 21:58 That's actually the design of light - the "Mr Floppy" of the sign lighting world. Re: Manky Signs
These could well have been mentioned previously but it does no harm to show what's still standing.
The 2 rightward-pointing signs looked much darker when I saw them than they appear in this image. Apologies for the GSV-link - of which I am not a fan - but it would be awkward to take a photograph here, obviously: A6070

I didn't see if the 'Motorway Regulations. No stopping. No pedestrians' sign is still at the northbound exit on this roundabout.

Re: Manky Signs
I've put this one on the Tring bypass as a mank rather than a botch as it looks like a bit has fallen off revealing what's underneath. But it looks decidedly odd

spotted this a few days ago, just leaving the a66 near penrith

not sure where the bar is for 'manky', but i also saw this recently- you have to go to 2010 if you don't want it blurred...

learning the highway code has got me unnaturally interested in our road network...

Stumbled across these old US 31E/US31W shields in downtown Louisville, KY, earlier this month at the south end of the US 31 Ohio River crossing:

Also stumbled across this rather worn-out looking I-59 shield on the edge of downtown Tuscaloosa, AL, yesterday:

Re: Manky Signs
I saw this one in Abergavenny today on the A4143 heading south. The top part of the sign has been missing since at least September 2022.

The sign up to May 2018 was complete but gave no indication of which exit you need if you want to head west along the A465 towards Merthyr Tydfil.

Re: Manky Signs
How old are the white signs with blue borders? There's one near me that's very manky to the point it's getting hard to read. I've lived in the area since the late 80s and I think it's been there longer than I have.
It had a pair on the opposite side of the road at one point, but that was removed because it was attached to a lamppost that got replaced.

Re: Manky Signs
They went out of the regs in 1994, and officially should all have been removed 10 years ago - so the youngest lawfully placed ones are now 30!Paul237 wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2024 13:23 How old are the white signs with blue borders? Wow, so the one near me is 10 years passed its use by date. Still, I quite like it, as it's nice to see some things that have been there since I was a child!Bryn666 wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2024 16:56They went out of the regs in 1994, and officially should all have been removed 10 years ago - so the youngest lawfully placed ones are now 30!Paul237 wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2024 13:23 How old are the white signs with blue borders? Re: Manky Signs
Spotted this on my way home the other day - a manky old bend sign, from the days before the "bend with junction" signs were available.
The mini roundabout which was built on apex of the bend has been there for well over 20 years!

Re: Manky Signs
I posted elsewhere, but these - https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@54.63156 ... ?entry=ttu - were replaced on a like-for-like basis between 2008 and 2011 (according to GSV history). It's not some backroad either, this is junction 1 of the M2(NI) meeting the A2(NI) primary route (green signed elsewhere)Bryn666 wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2024 16:56They went out of the regs in 1994, and officially should all have been removed 10 years ago - so the youngest lawfully placed ones are now 30!Paul237 wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2024 13:23 How old are the white signs with blue borders? Plenty of manky signage on the link - a backlit 2 way road sign - https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@54.63146 ... ?entry=ttu and a blue bordered route sign hidden by vegetation https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@54.63107 ... ?entry=ttu
