Last time I walked along A106 Ruckholt Road near Leyton, back in 2006, there were some A102(M) signs at the junction with Temple Mills Lane. The bits of A102(M) became A12 and A102 in 1999.

It might well have been, but it can still be a primary route with green signs. Unless that was what you meant ;)

I've mentioned a number of times before that the former A617 through the centre of Mansfield is still covered in A617 signs when they should now read A6191 - I guess that they must irritate me a lot!

Up until a couple of years ago, the A6055 in Knaresborough was signposted as the B6166 on a pre-Worboys sign. The road had changed to the A6055 - I think in the 60s or 70s - but was there for a long time. The B6166 is now allocated to the old A46 through Newark.

There is still a seventies era Worboys sign in Egremont that says A595 Barrow, even though the village was by passed in 1993.

There's still (or was in June 07) a sign referring to the A45 in northern Cambridge (I can't remember the precise location but I think it was on the ring road not far from Arbury Road).

Many of the road signs on the B6114 west of Elland refer to it by its long defunct former number, the A6025.

I also recall the sign in the OP's avatar being out of date in the Highway Code for many years after the Malton bypass was built!

There's a sign just outside my village (Balsall Common) which is just off the B4101 (Coventry-Knowle), but it still says A4023, which must have changed well over 20 years ago...? A few others in more prominent places on the road have had stickers put over them but this one has been totally ignored!
I must get a photo.

A21Will wrote:The best i know of though are the signs on a building in Canterbury high street which still point to A2 Dover and A2 Chatham. Once apon a time the A28 met the A2 here. A2 traffic has been bypassed TWICE since these signs were correct.
And that street is now pedestrianised..... :)

Those signs, for anyone wishing to see them, are here. The photo was taken and uploaded by me, despite for some reason being credited to Steven.

Anyway, back on topic, since the renumbering a couple of years back (old A20 through Cheriton becoming B2064, for example), a lot of signs in Folkestone are now out of date.

There are also a few signs for the B2065 near Barham, which hasn't existed for over a decade (the B2065 that is, not Barham!).

A classic Accident Blackspot pre-warboys sign can be seen near a suspicious bridge on the A200. As there are always tailbacks close to it it's easy to spot albeit only when travelling east.

Don't know if this is still here, and I have mentioned this on the First 99, is the sign at the end of the B6318 at Heddon, which is early Worboys, that says A69 Hexham, even though the A69 by passed Heddon in 1976. I last saw it in 2002.
Also in 1986 I saw at the start of the A1 Wetherby by pass a Llewelyn- Smith sign from the fifties on the old A1 indicating A1 WETHERBY. Perhaps the locals liked the sign for nostalgic reasons.

This definitely looks like it dates back to the seventies as it refers to " Motorway", which was quite common then, rather than giving the motorway number.
Out of interest, the A616 goes past one of the oddest listed buildings in England, Park Hill Flats, a collection of concrete maisonettes and used to go past the notorious Hyde Park Flats, where on a few occasions televisions were thrown on to passing cars.

Interestingly there is one little bit of the A20 that still has primary status, the bit from the M26 to the A25.

Signs to 'University' still appear at the A461/A4101 Scotts Green island in Dudley.

Wolverhampton University closed their Dudley campus 2 years ago....

Indeed! However I must admit that I am strangely affectionate towards the Park Hill flats because of their unique nature. They are well worth an explore, most are now un-occupied but you can still get a reflection as to what life would have been like living there. They are also all due to have intense refurbishment carried out soon.

There is one in Perth pointing to the M85 which was renamed M90 around 10 years ago. To add insult to injury it also has a chopsticks logo on the sign even though the motorway is over a mile away!

And more A102(M) signs near the Darenth Interchange (A2/M25) (Unless the current works have taken them).
