Roads by 10 - the A91x's

Post by Michael »

A910 - Can't see it.
A911 - Leven to Kinross
A912 - Perth to Gateshead on the A91, remerges a few miles east on the A91 and heads south and ends at a junction with the A92 and the A914 north of Glenrothes.
A913 - Cupar to a junction with the A912 near Junction 9 of the M90.
A914 - Cupar to a junction with the A92 and the A912 north of Glenrothes.
A915 - Glenrothes to St Andrews.
A916 - from the A915 near Leven to the A914 south of Cupar.
A917 - Splits from the A915 east of Leven to St Andrews via the coast instead of going directly there.
A918 - Don't think it exists.
A919 - Splits from the A914 south of Newport-on-Tay, goes past RAF Leuchars and joins the A91 just after the RAF base.
It's amazing how complete this set is- but I know very little about this area.

A910 - The Kirkcaldy West distributor road. Originally, A910 went from A90 Cowdenbeath to A92 Kirkcaldy, via Lochgelly and Cardenden. After M90 opened past Cowdenbeath, A910 was extended SW along the former A90 to A907 at Crossgates. With opening of A92 East Fife Regional Road parallel to this line, A910 was reduced to its present length.
A911 - A915 Windygates to A91 Milnathort. Route has been much altered through Glenrothes New Town.
A912 - Perth to A91 Gatesside (not Gateshead!) via Glenfarg; Also A91 Strathmiglo to the A92 New Inn roundabout (north of Glenrothes). Between Glenfarg to Perth was A90 prior to the M90 opening. (Mini owners in central Scotlandshould know Gateside quite well: http://www.minimart-gateside.co.uk)

A913 - A91 Cupar to A912 at Glenfarg.

A914 - A92 New Inn roundabout (north of Glenrothes) to A92 Tay Bridge approach, with a break between Cupar and Dairsie (A91). A92 and A914 swapped numbers over this stretch sometime in the early 1990s.

A915 - A92 Kirkcaldy to A91 St Andrews, via Windygates.

A916 - A915 Windygates to A914 Cupar.

A917 - A915 at Largo (east of Leven) to St Andrews via the coast. Originally just Largo to Crail (see A918).

A918 - South Street, St Andrews, joining A915 and A917. Number was previously also used for the coast road between St Andrews and Crail - which is now A917.

A919 - A914 St Michaels to A91 Guardbridge, viaLeuchars. The road used to pass right through the RAF Station, but aby-pass was built mid-1970s.
This is my home area! The changing patterns of classified roads in Fife over the years wasa major project for my Geography Higher (1984), and I can see there's been plenty of changes since then.
