Yes Sir.

I live just off a road that joins US Highways 27 and 41.

In the queue into work today, I was sat behind a rusty red sprinter van with the registration N4 BRE.

Can I ask what you're doing? And have you got past the "gee wow you're from England?" bit yet?

And perhaps a change in nick to somethink Yankee would be appropriate....?

Well, I changed my avatar and location, I'm not sure if thats enough of a clue, but I shall remain loyal to my favourite lost road.

As for what I'm doing. The answer is not a lot at the moment. I'm a man of leisure, which generally means painting the house, mowing the 'yard' (Back in Yorkshire you can't mow the yard, due to the excessive amount of concrete) and watching re-runs of 'Whose line is it anyway?' on BBCAmerica.
Meanwhile the present Mrs_A47 goes out to earn a crust.

Whilst I am actually a slacker, I can't work yet, as I don't yet have a work permit, but, as soon as that arrives, I shall go a hunting for jobs to teach people the way of Math. (Maybe try to coach a school 'soccer' team too)

In the UK, there are a few carriageway splits on Motorways, on the odd occasion, there is something between the carriageways, like the M62 Farmhouse.

Well, between Chattanooga and Nashville on the I-24 in Tennessee, there is a carriageway split, with a mountain in between the two carriageways.

On the map its is here

Here are three pictures I took traveling on the Northbound carriageway!

There is a similar situation on the Badaling expressway in Beijing, where the carriageways split to go around the mountains. They stay split for some 30km!

In terms of interstate oddments, there's also the Franconia Notch Parkway on I-93 in New Hampshire near the Old Man of the Mountain (now no longer with us), which is a stretch of D1.

In France we've got a nice carriageway split near Chamonix (N205, in continuation of the A40), where one of the carriageway is the old road (many curves, pretty dangerous) and the other one consists of a viaduct build in 1993. On this carriageway split the traffic directions are reversed...

Well, Chattanooga has been struck by panic...

Is it a roundabout or a circle?

My favourite part of the article....
Without a doubt, there will be many drivers that will totally intimidated by them.

The REALLY scary bit is that the quote was made by the City's Traffic Engineer
Does intimidated equate to "Drive carefully and sensibly around them"?
Instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, why don't they just ask us how to design multi-lane roundabouts?

Because America asking us for help would be a massive dent to their pride, of course.

They've not needed us since 1776 after all

But, (according to one episode of The Simpsons - and it's a US programme, so they should know), didn't we save their *ss in WW3?
