Time to bump this thread as the Government has now produced guidance for schemes and investment schemes for the MRN which are here

The DfT states that schemes on the MRN have to support five central objectives which are:

1) Reduce Congestion
2) Support economic growth and rebalancing
3) Support Housing delivery
4) Support all road users including cyclists, pedestrians and disabled people.
5) Support the Strategic road network with users passing seamlessly between the MRN and SRN.

How the election will change this is unknown, but there is no details of the network which I presume is similar to that posted above, which are mainly old trunk roads anyway. If they are so important why de trunk them in the first place
