The mankiness of this sign only becomes truly apparent after dark, as the reflective material is flaking off badly. The other gore signs (from 1982, patched for the M3 in 1995) on this stretch have all been replaced in the last few months, which makes it worse - I don't know why it was left out!

If you're going to look at signs around Staffin, how can you forget these famous manky signs?

Perhaps the Highland Council can't find anyone prepared to travel that far from Inverness? :)

I drove past there today and it's been replaced. That was one of my favourites too :(

That must have happened within the last two months as I posted the link the day I saw it.

The old one was still there on Friday morning.

Unfortunately it looks like they've only fixed the new sign on to the right-hand pole

A picture of one I took a few years ago in Edinburgh. Not sure if it is still there, mind.

According to Streetview, it is.

It was still there this morning - though the white sign is now seriously manky! I'll take a fresh pic when I get the chance (and remember to).

And I like the wildflower display in the gutter of the shelter. Edinburgh's civic pride knows no limits.

I had a look on my way back from work this morning. The original rusty sign has gone and replaced by an additional one. Howevever, fixing it to one pole and leaving the other standing is a bit below par.

Just realised that the classic Telford bodge-job I usually post hasn't made an appearance in this thread yet:

I love the simplicity of that. I'm sure nowadays that'd have about a million destinations on.
Unfortunately I must have spoken too soon as the sign has now been replaced with one about twice the size (but no more information on it, other than a patch for the M40).
I didn't want to believe my Dad was stealing from his job as a road worker. But when I got home, all the signs were there.

Here's a lovely one I spotted in the Fishponds area of Bristol last month!

Surprised to see this old messy sign so close to a motorway junction. It's still legible, admittedly, but must be a few years old!

Not sure if this counts, but coming up to Woolley Edge services on the NB carrigeway, the 200 yard countdown marker is a very dark blue compared to the 100 and 300 ones. Could this 200 yard marker be original? Unfortunately the GSV doesn't show the true darkness compared to newer signs
