Re: Botched Roadsigns
Aside from the incorrectness, how many signs right next to each other are needed for exactly the same hazard? If one sign warning people about it didn't do the job, whose idea was it to just repeat the same ineffective trick twice more?!Bfivethousand wrote:This...
Only just noticed this one yesterday - continue over the brow of the bridge and you will find that there is no junction to the left, just a somewhat dicey one to the right.
The spacing's all wrong as well.Truvelo wrote:This sign isn't quite right. The numbers are in bold, the yellow is off which looks even worse in real and there's no gap between A and 5

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Despite using this junction regularly for 2 years, I've just spotted another dodgy sign at the Waterside Roundabout under the M18.
On the approach from Thorne, Goole (M62) is correctly signed to the right via the M18: https://goo.gl/maps/QshYcZLVz412
But get onto the roundabout and the signs direct you to Goole (M62) at the previous exit via the A614: https://goo.gl/maps/QTUk6rBDSF42.
That is just plain misleading!

I translated it as "M62 diversion". Shows the weaknesses of the diversion symbol system.Stevie D wrote:Despite using this junction regularly for 2 years, I've just spotted another dodgy sign at the Waterside Roundabout under the M18.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
I'm not sure why you would read it as that. Diversionary routes don't normally signpost either the motorway or destination that they are for unless that is a logical route from somewhere else to get to that motorway and destination. Given that both Goole and (M62) are signposted in a different direction from that junction, there is no rationale for confusing drivers by signposting them additionally on a suboptimal route, especially when drivers coming round the roundabout reach that exit before the one they actually should take.Bryn666 wrote:I translated it as "M62 diversion". The sign should look something like this:
(Interestingly, the diversion route to the M62 goes through Rawcliffe to J36, which is fine for M62(E), but there is no indication that drivers wanting M62(W) would be better off going through Snaith to J34)

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Noticed this one the other day at Vauxhall bus station. I assume the ƒ is supposed to be a glyph for music or something.
And also saw this photo posted up somewhere as well...

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Surely these two signs have been put on the poles back to front. The end of the controlled zone is behind us as we are heading towards central Bromley in this view. Here's the backs and you san see the vehicles parked up the hill. This is where I park for Bromley.
Re: Botched Roadsigns
I have noticed this before, but today I needed to take the exit signposted by this not especially usefully positioned sign.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
No, the "f" is an italic letter "f" from, I think, Times New Roman. It shouldn't surprise you that the Transport alphabet does not include much musical notation!RichieGraham wrote:Noticed this one the other day at Vauxhall bus station. When TfL was first instituted around 17 years ago, its original logo had the words "Transport" and "London" in the Underground's Johnston lettering, but "for" was written in serif italics, and in print it would always style itself Transport for London or TfL. That didn't last long, but the creator of those signs at Vauxhall station was obviously trying a bit too hard to work with their branding guidelines.

Going over the Queensferry Crossing on Friday, and saw a no chopsticks sign on the main carriageway just before the bridge, then followed by the blue signs on the overhead gantries

Re: Botched Roadsigns
I remember at one point there was a sign somewhere in East Kilbride that said 'Hairmyers', whilst I still lived there. Doubt that it's even been fixed (in case you didn't know, it's spelt Hairmyres). Somewhere on like A749/A725/A726 within East Kilbride and somewhere at a roundabout.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
The roundabout where A38 and A448 cross is fairly straightforward, but there is a fifth exit to a housing estate called The Oakalls, after the farm that formerly occupied the land, I'm told. Except that some signs call it The Oakhalls. Sure, not a huge error, but an indication of lack of attention to detail.

What's more, the A586 isn't a primary route!Truvelo wrote:This sign isn't quite right. The numbers are in bold, the yellow is off which looks even worse in real and there's no gap between A and 5

There's another example of nearly-but-not-quite-right Poultonesque home-made design just around the corner here.
Edited to add:
I've just spotted that Bryn666 had already posted upthread that "There are loads of dodgy signs in Wyre". Very true!
