Slight overhang

Post by J--M--B »

Someone does not seem to have used much common sense when erecting this sign which overhangs the car park. It has been there for weeks or months but I presume someone has backed into it and the car park bay has been closed off with cones (I don't often use the car park so had not noticed).

Makes me wonder if the road authority will be compensating the council for loss of revenue from the car park bay?

There's another example of one here in Fareham, but the sign is pretty high and has a warning sign on it (containing a height restriction, IIRC).

Also, spot the error.

I believe it has been coned off since the Summer, there was a lot of glass around when a friend first saw the cones. He thought the cones were to keep people away from the glass and did not realise that there was a cock-up with the sign until a few weeks later.

The obvious fix is to increase the signs mounting height, or failing that, remove the posts and angle them so there isn't a wafer thin lump of metal waiting to take an eye out...

I must have a look next time down but I am sure they could have mounted the sign at the end of the car park so it did not overhang any parking bays but that would need some common sense. It probably replaced a previous sign but is much bigger because of all the Gaelic translations.

The car park is theoretically cars only is often used by larger vehicles in the evening though most park across the bay markings so probably not affected.

I suspect a politely worded email may clear it up. The design engineer may have specified that the sign be aligned in a certain way or put in another location but the contractors could've just replaced the old with the new sign.

It happens, you know. I have had signs relocated because they went in place of the old instead of where I had asked for them to go.

Have a look for 'setting out' spray marks.
