I thought this road in Stalham still had SOX on it, until I noticed a day burner and it appears that it has been retrofitted with what looks to be standard household LED bulbs! They don’t seem very bright…

When the M25 was widened between j27-30, the columns on a short section of the A282 before the crossing and the associated slip roads weren't replaced:

Not been up there for a while so not sure if they've been replaced since but Highways England don't seem interested in upgrading to LED or even maintaining streetlighting with many random sections of the newer SON lighting not working at all for years on the M25, A2 and M2.

Well, the M25 is maintained by Connect Plus who say there are LED replacement schemes going on.

But even the LEDs are not operating!

Add the M20 around Maidstone into that list; only around 1 in 20 lights working at a conservative estimate (apart from the oasis of light immediately west of J5 where replacement and additional columns using LEDs were installed as part of the completed Smart Motorway works).

So the aforementioned SOx on the A21 London Road in Bromley is being replaced. Completely nondescript compared to what they're replacing.

On a trip up to the Suffolk coast I did spot some remaining SOx on Halesworth Road in Reydon just outside Southwold. Some of the lamterns have been replaced over time but nothing wholesale.

Despite a second pass to replace some of the stragglers, Calderdale's LED conversion contractors still seemed to miss some SOX installations. These two are very close to my home in Todmorden, although the one located in the alley had been out for many months - quite possibly since Covid. However I noticed the other evening it has now been returned to its SOX glory :D !

Wait, they converted LED back to LPS?

Sorry, no, both these remained SOX, and I merely meant that a replacement SOX element had been fitted to the failed light. Why these two were missed I have no idea, there are several others in nearby back alleys that were replaced by LED. I noticed the other evening there are also some SOX visible on the W side of the A646, I must have a look now the afternoons are drawing in.

Quite a few relics on the A58 going into Bury. How old would these be? With the black paint at the base of the colunm, they look kinda newish.

Perhaps late 60s/early 70s. That type of lantern would suggest that era.

Bradford seems to have a fair bit of SOX lighting including some really old lanterns on old tram poles.
There is a bit on the M62 north of Manchester and at the M61 junction.

Yep.
One annoyance was that Bradford started replacing its old stock about 20 years ago. But just recently, they signed a lighting agreement where the company has started to replace areas of lighting, that include street lights done about 15 years ago. I think that Bradford's way was better, but it seemed to take much longer. I think it would make sense to replace all the older stock first before tackling, the newer stock. Ilkley still has a lot of old stock though they did at some point replace the ones on the main roads through Ben Ridding and Burley-in-Wharfedale, and the lighting between the bypass and Ilkley but elsewhere (except some bits) it's still all old stock.

Not sure if they are tram or trolleybus but they are old!

If you like old tram poles, Glasgow is worth a visit. They’re literally everywhere

They’ve even got modern replacement columns that still have overhead wires and are mostly still SOX.

Here’s a road near my old house that has a very old tram pole and a modern replacement that are both running LEDs now.

They are making inroads to the SOX lighting in Glasgow. Notice less and less each time I go to Glasgow.

It almost certainly is.

Also... what a weird junction layout!

I found this lantern and junction while randomly searching villages around the UK. What lantern is it aswell? I'm pretty sure its a GEC of some sort.
