Many years ago I saw a council lorry with an exclamation mark sign on its rear, with a plate underneath saying "Weedkiller".

The A505 between the A1 and A10 has restrictions signs, fairly sure no horses is one of them. It's been a while since I've been that way mind

Why was that?? Not having an appropriate reason to do??

Only through the Weston Hills Tunnel, I believe. The rest of the road is pretty unrestricted.

Edinburgh City Bypass. [NB - horse-drawn should be hyphenated]

No mention of the incredibly rare 'no overtaking' sign. I'm surprised.

There's some of those on the A66 near Warcop in Cumbria; these are the lights in question.

Also notable are the "MOD ONLY" markings on a nearby exit.

At least there are lights! I always felt a need to check there wasn't a Challenger 2 bearing down on me as I drove the Wiltshire road!!

It's in block capitals so not correct - but then I would be shouting if there was one coming too!

The Know Your Traffic Signs booklet has a "No Motorcycles" sign, which made me wonder what circumstances it would be used for.

Even the "No Ford Prefects" sign is rare.

The "Happy Car" sign could help on restricted roads rather than put up 4 signs.

A38(M) middle lane - if memory serves someone on here mentioned a series of accidents involving motorbikes on the drain that runs in lane 4 there.

From time to time you come across a written sign which surely can't exist anywhere else. In Northwich you should beware steam vapour, whereas in Porlock you can't loiter.

I know of a few in the Peak District, for example this one. I certainly wouldn't want to drive along there.

I'm a fan of Risk of Ice because it always tends to crop up just as you were thinking it had been done without.

https://www.google.com/maps/@54.9207648 ... 312!8i6656 - No tractors or construction vehicles on the Newcastle / Gateshead Western Bypass.

https://www.google.com/maps/@54.9750301 ... 312!8i6656 - No hazardous lorries (I guess). There's also no overtaking signs aswell.

Not uncommon in the Highlands.

Including some of the old worded sign.

And, what was more common prior to the 1994 version, the slippery road sign.

There's one on a footpath in Dingwall.

That's the ADR category code for the tunnel.

I'm always amused by signs telling you that the carrying of snow chains is obligatory in parts of Italy where the temperature hardly ever dips below 0 C, and where there is scarcely ever anything more than a light dusting of snow once every five years (e.g. Sardinia)!

This one I took in the gallery must fall into this category.

Indeed rare. There is a set I pass quite often though on the A3016, Upper Hale, Farnham.

The Porlock signage has been unfortunately simplified over the years. It used to have a range of otherwise unique ones. I recall, after all the standard uphill signage, there was then, approaching the Second Bend "Hill Steepens - Bottom Gear NOW".
I certainly wouldn't want to drive along there.
But those bringing Land-Rovers out from Manchester at the weekend probably would.

There are a few. But the old Menai Bridge used to have the standard sign for this, with a plate underneath "Except bicycles by bicycles". As many such signs are often erected only in response to (repeated) incidents, I wonder whatever led to it.

No. But very unusual to have one on the outskirts of Doncaster (A614 heading north from M18), where there is a fixed, permanent 'Ice' warning sign. Even in the recent snow, there was absolutely no sign of ice there...
