Interesting point. Presumably St.Austell <-> Newquay traffic will use the new road, so the A3058 from St.Austell to the A3076 junction could be demoted to a B road. I wonder if the new road will be part of the signposted route for St.Austell <-> Truro, if so that part of the A390 presumably no longer needs to be primary.
St Austell - Newquay, I think it'll depend on whereabouts in St Austell you are, but for the most part, yes I can see a fair bit of traffic heading up the new road then using the old A30 and unclassified road across Goss Moor to the A39/A3059 roundabout at St Columb Major. Indeed if any further renumbering was to happen, rather than downgrading the A3058, extending the A3059 east from St Columb Major would make a lot of sense.
St Austell - Truro, absolutely not. Apart from the remaining unbypassed villages, and of course the stretch through St Austell itself, the A390 between the two is not that bad, and certainly not worth the fairly hefty detour. Bear in mind the A39 as it enters Truro from the A30 can get fairly clogged up as well, and overall it means the A390 will still be a significant road very much worthy of its primary status.
One other movement to consider is St Austell - Wadebridge/Camelford. Currently this traffic uses the A389 and a minor road to "bypass" Bodmin. I think a lot, if not all of it will now use the B3274 to join the A39 further down, and from what I remember the B3274 is not a brilliant road in places.

Thanks for the thoughts. I've only been to Cornwall once in my life so your local knowledge is vastly better than mine.
Here's the sign with the year of completion although I would say that with work well underway and the Roche By-Pass section of the road going across open fields some of it would probably be open before the 2025 completion date. A local farmer told me that work had already been going on for six months.
Good footage, interesting to see the different types of material used in the china clay area compared to the more rural area further near the A30.
There was an archeological dig somewhere along the route which brought up evidence of a large Roman barracks, up to now this was not expected so far west.
Part of the B3274 going SW from the Cornwall Services junction past Victoria to the junction with the other parts of the B3274 (at least according to Google Maps) will be closed for two months starting from today for construction work on the new road.
A minor incovenience to me as that's the way I always go when heading "up country" from St Columb Major. Now I'll have to go West first to St Columb Road/Indian Queens to pick up the A30 East at Highgate Hill.
Was originally signed to be from 1st Feb to 31st March.
Then changed to 6th April, then 10th April, then 21st April.
Yesterday, it was changed AGAIN, now running to 3rd May.
There are signs now for a new roundabout called Tregoss, but whoever did the project planning for this deserves a talking too - the extensions now add up to slightly over 50% of the original timeline of the job, and it may not be finished getting extended yet.
