The bridge should greatly improve connections to the south of Senegal from the rest of the country. Before the bridge was built it was either a lengthy drive around The Gambia or a ferry crossing which would sometimes be delayed by several days.

One trusts that the Gambians can have an efficient border control system. My experience of crossing borders in Africa (admitedly 40 years ago) was that there coudl be long delays.
