The ferry services appear to have been suspended in 2013, which is more recent than I thought.

According to the SABRE Wiki, the tunnel opened in 2000.
I never knew it closed since all the port signs on the M26, M20 and M2 still refer to Ramsgate port as a ferry destination

Here on the M26 they have obliterated Folkestone completely but Ramsgate remains

I thought there are no ferries from Sheerness now, apart from the Sheerness-Southend route, which is only a small passenger service? The sign shows a ferry with a lorry on board. Or perhaps the ferries from Sheerness are only for commercial vehicles?

Sheerness is a huge commercial port; many cars come to the country through it. That’s what 5he sign is intending.

Pretty sure there's not even commercial ferries (as such) from Sheerness, not even unattended trailers (which there are from Tilbury and Purfleet)- and that's what Freightlink seems to say as well. Bulk Ro-Ro freight (ie the car transporters!) is a slightly different class.

Also on Monday Portsmouth City Council intend to formally lower the speed limit on the M275 southbound to 40mph, to protect any traffic queueing to enter the port from rear-end collisions. This involves burning off all the markings which are painted on the road, as well as changing the signs. When they did this in March it lasted 24 hours before they had to re-paint it again. You can see the burnt off markings on Street View.

They haven't heard of temporary signs and masking road markings then...

I wonder if it's an accountancy thing - the money has been allocated to carry out No Deal preparations so it must be spent as planned even if it now looks excessive?

Of course, there could be yet another climbdown once the extension is granted. :stir:

Has there been any word on what traffic management would be required on the M25 if the M26 closure is activated?

This must be getting rather draining for those responsible for laying it out... and taking it back in again... ad infinitum...

Thats this government all over though, they waste money on stupid things, yet if governments of different colours spend money on public services and actually helping people they get ridiculed for spending too much go figure!

I’ve given up using the M20 to get to Maidstone. I just take the old A20 instead; it’s faster and less stressful.

Came through here late last night.

What with the J10/10a works, operation Brock, and then the smart motorway widening up to the M26, just about the whole of the M20 is under restrictions. It was by far the slowest and most awkward part of my drive home from Austria. I'm surprised there are not more complaints from the residents of Kent.

I really don't seen how HE can justify having reduced the motorway capacity for the last year or so, leaving the other lanes just sitting there, given that Brexit has always been something "in the future". Even just using the other two (closed) lanes for same-direction traffic would ease the situration enormousely.
Let it snow.

Perhaps local MP’s have been too focused on Brexit to ask questions in Parliament.

Then again, Parliament hasn’t sat much this year, either.
