Re: Out of date road signs
One of the first Hypermarkets I ever saw was on the outskirts of St Peters, Broadstairs here. That was the mid seventies and it was certainly signed as such and was a co-op I believe. These days not signed at all and the outskirts of Broadstairs have now been swallowed up by the massive and ever increasing Westwood retail and housing development. So just one store near many. They do still have some of the fields of cabbages here though, which is the same crop they have been growing here since at least the sixties. "When I were a lad all this were fields as far as the eye could see".
Re: Out of date road signs
Nothing so uncouth as "Hypermarket" for Waitrose in Southend -- it's "Major Store". https://maps.app.goo.gl/9XdfFXwofM7uQu678
Re: Out of date road signs
Why this sign is still in place YEARS after road was closed for traffic

Re: Out of date road signs
Cyclists still need warning, as do pedestrians in fact, of a level crossing. Though perhaps not of risk of grounding.
Re: Out of date road signs
Not sure if this one has been posted but it's nearly as old as this thread!

Re: Out of date road signs
I must have seen this sign before but it took until today before I realised its significance.
The brown sign is pointing towards the original Buxton site of Peak Rail - the issue is that they moved out of Buxton in the late 1980s and moved to Matlock.
The other side of the sign has Peak Rail covered over (although it's still a brown sign even though the station car park isn't a tourist attraction); either this side wasn't done or the patch has fallen off.

Good spot. Do you think that is a copy of an old sign? as it doesn’t look 1980 vintage. unless it’s aged really well.vlad wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2023 21:40 I must have seen this sign before but it took until today before I realised its significance.

Re: Out of date road signs
More surprised that a half barrier automatic crossing has been retained for what is now clearly a footpath and cycle route only. Surely this is just ripe for non-compliance.Nathan_A_RF wrote: ↑Thu Oct 19, 2023 22:07 Cyclists still need warning, as do pedestrians in fact, of a level crossing. Brown signs didn't exist in 1980 - they were first introduced around 1987 and formalised in the 1994 TSRGD.Rambo wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 09:21Good spot. Ah i misread the original post. I thought they moved out in 1980. Must be original if they were still at Buxton in the late 80's.Bryn666 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 19:10Brown signs didn't exist in 1980 - they were first introduced around 1987 and formalised in the 1994 TSRGD.Rambo wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 09:21Good spot. This sign was patched if you look into older photoRambo wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 20:39Ah i misread the original post. I thought they moved out in 1980. Must be original if they were still at Buxton in the late 80's.

Re: Out of date road signs
That's the other side of the sign, which I've already mentioned is indeed patched - it's the right turn off the A53 which I commented on.Komi san wrote: ↑Mon Oct 23, 2023 18:26 This sign was patched if you look into older photo

I'm wondering if this sign is actually original to the A53 town-centre bypass, which IIRC opened in the late 1980s. If it does indeed predate the closure of Peak Rail then it can't have done so by very long!

Re: Out of date road signs
Whatever the rights or wrong of it and I think the latter, it can be agreed that the A3077 no longer exists and therefore
these signs are certainly out of date since the A3077 was re/de classified with the Penzance bypass completion.

Re: Out of date road signs
Quite a number of A3077 signs hanging on - Cornwall is not great at catching up with renumberings.multiraider2 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 23, 2023 22:35 Whatever the rights or wrong of it and I think the latter, it can be agreed that the A3077 no longer exists and therefore

Re: Out of date road signs
It's been amazing to see just how many out of date road signs there across the UK. I wonder which ones are the most out of date?

I have no idea when this one is dated: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@55.84935 ... ?entry=ttu
But I've always wondered when it originated and, being from the 21st century, why anyone would volunteer to use such a measurement!

Re: Out of date road signs
End of no U turns.
I assume this is out of date since the no u turns signs were removed when the gaps in the A77 were closed in 2014. Or maybe there is still a TRO restricting U turns in case someone cuts a hole in the barrier.
