Re: Out of date road signs
Since at least 2019, the 1930s bypass of Redruth, since bypassed itself in 1975 and currently numbered A3047, has had a cycle lane added between the B3300 roundabout and the end of the old bypass. So surely cycles don't also now need to share the pavement? The shared pavement/cyclepath signs remain all along here and down until the end.
Edit. Actually scrap that. The pavement wasn't here before. It was just a grass verge. The pavement has gone in, I guess, for the new housing developments north of the road. So the question is then is that a correct sign where the pavement is separated from the cycle lane?

Re: Out of date road signs
The version where some overall thought was applied to the design: The cycle lane joins the pavement later on for the toucan crossing. It's more convenient to use that opportunity to join the pavement at the junction than slam on the brakes, swing right out into traffic approaching from the rear to make a 90 degree turn left to mount the pavement immediately before the crossing. It may also be convenient to use the cycle lane against traffic to access the junction in some circumstances but, looking at the bigger picture, probably not. They may also be attempting parallel provision - fast commuting cyclists may prefer to use the road but families might prefer the pavement. Providing a painted cycle lane for 'through' movements and a pavement lane for 'across' movements is also sort of reasonable, the painted lane making it clear to motorists that cyclists using the road are doing so legitimately in addition to theoretically providing a safety benefit.multiraider2 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2024 11:00 Since at least 2019, the 1930s bypass of Redruth, since bypassed itself in 1975 and currently numbered A3047, has had a cycle lane added between the B3300 roundabout and the end of the old bypass. The version which probably reflects reality: A developer has done the bare minimum signage/paint to meet some planning requirement about cycle infrastructure and lane widths.

This sign was not changed or even patched after N8 was upgraded to the motorway standards

Re: Out of date road signs
I don't know if any of our members have recently holidayed in Woolacombe or are local? If so perhaps they could confirm if this sign is still extant. It could qualify for the manky signs thread certainly, but in addition, the B3343 ahead was turned into the A3123 in 1991. This streetview shot is from 2019. There's a few issues with signing this junction; at least there were the last time the streetview car went past. More on that elsewhere.

Re: Out of date road signs
Not been down there yet this year, but it was definitely still there last year. The A361 between here and Knowle has since been reduced to 50mph, so there's a very slight chance that other signage at Mullacott might have been updated as well. Not holding my breath, though!multiraider2 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2024 23:16 I don't know if any of our members have recently holidayed in Woolacombe or are local? Re: Out of date road signs
The sign in question looks to be from the late 1980s so probably was too new to have been replaced and then forgotten about when coverplates were needed.multiraider2 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2024 23:16 I don't know if any of our members have recently holidayed in Woolacombe or are local? How would you like your grade separations, Sir?

Re: Out of date road signs
Similar problems with Bolton's football ground. Signs on the M61 still say Macron Stadium.
The reason is because of the insane costs of replacing signs like these on trunk roads. The way to solve the problem is to just have brown signs pointing at football grounds to state the name of the team as this usually doesn't change.

Re: Out of date road signs
Slightly unrelated, but there's this old sign on the A55 by Penmaenbach:
(change of carriageway ahead)
To my knowledge, this is used when contraflow is applied to the eastbound carriageway.

Those two should be in the botched thread too shouldn’t they?

Re: Out of date road signs
I had assumed the Change Of Carriageway signs were used when there were diversions for roadworks & such.

Re: Out of date road signs
That’s correct, and is true of Penmaenbach. It was only applicable at a crossover on a dual carriageway.
I suppose the reason for the 1975 sign remaining there is that it isn’t a temporary sign. I would quite honestly shrug my shoulder and put up the current design anyway and say it would only face traffic in temporary situations.
The Torquay examples should be replaced by road narrows on the outside as there isn’t a second carriageway to cross to.

Re: Out of date road signs
This one, at least in part, can be put to bed. After, I don't know how long, the sign pictured has been patched with a B243 sticker. Came back from South Croydon earlier. I don't know if the A232 ADS has been similarly changed. It was still showing on the September 2023 streetview and will have to have a look.I wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2019 14:52 Although I just submitted this picture, I took it nine years ago.
It wasn't the A2039 then although the exact date it changed into the B243 is unclear. The road was also unclassified between the A and B designations. The sign still exists and indeed the route is still marked from the A212 itself and from the A232.

Re: Out of date road signs
Shouldn't these triangular warning signs for "high voltage overhead cables" here at the junction of the B4210 and Norfolk Place have been removed ten years ago?
174 B4210
https://maps.app.goo.gl/XnW7zcnUDk3nutde7
There used to be an industrial site with a barriered entrance down here up to 2011, which certainly did have cables strung over the road when it was open, but G.S.V. shows the site as being closed by 2011 with demolition and clearance in 2012/2013, replaced by housing – initially heavy blue–painted railings gated Norfolk Place off from the estate after it was built, but the railings were replaced from 2019/2020 by a bollarded path providing pedestrian access!
Would these overhead cables signs have been provided by the factory site owner and simply never taken down when it closed? GSV 2022 still shows them as being there!

They definitely look home made and something the local authority should've had removed as part of S278/S38 agreement works.Chris56000 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2024 01:36 Shouldn't these triangular warning signs for "high voltage overhead cables" here at the junction of the B4210 and Norfolk Place have been removed ten years ago?
