They're digging up long stretches of the concrete section of the A2 Shore Road Newtownabbey outside Belfast

I wonder if they'll patch up the concrete, or given it's a full road closure tarmac the lot?

A12 works on both sites have been affected quite a bit by the weather, with very few breaks between wet spells and cold ones.

At Margaretting the reopening of the J15 entry, which was supposed to happen before Christmas, has not yet happened. There's hope it will finally reopen on Thursday morning. I went through this afternoon, and the new surface at least looks to be more or less down, although quite a few other works such as barriers to be done, but suspect some of that will be done around varioguard or overnight closures in the coming weeks. Traffic is being diverted to J16 to do a u-turn, but, despite the signs deterring people from using Margaretting and Ingatestone, many still are, and with the many parked cars in Ingatestone High Street, predictable problems. Those villages will be relieved on Thursday, hopefully.
A good chunk of the new surface is now down on the southbound carriageway. Lane 2 (of 3) is mostly in place, though lane 1 still has various gaps. Plenty of drainage work taking place as well, although the kerbing has gone in along a few sections. Probably a good month away from being done, then they can finally work on the northbound carriageway, which, in part due to the many burned off markings including the hatched ones at J15, is quite horrible to drive on now. No sign of them flinching from the summer completion date at this stage, which was always set to be late summer anyway, although would not be surprised if it drags in to Autumn.

Over at Marks Tey, northbound work to fully rebuild the road finally finished in November, after some nightmares with ground conditions then the wet summer and early autumn. Currently reconstructing lane 3 southbound, which has included taking up the central reservation, although can't see yet if they are installing a concrete barrier or sticking with armco? Still a lot of work to do, with some sections of lane 3 yet to be excavated, although other areas look to be having the binding layers added and some blacktop, plus signs of some kerbing about to go in. New revised completion date is the summer, but can't see them getting the whole southbound rebuilt in another four months.

Will try to get some up to date photos from Margaretting tomorrow. No overbridges sadly on the Marks Tey to Eight Ash Green section. The J25 overbridge and footbridge before that showed the reconstruction works northbound, but with southbound already black top through the junction, nothing else to see, with the works up to J26 out of shot.

Looks like southbound work at Margaretting is virtually complete, and in two week's time, they will switch to working on the northbound carriageway, to the relief of tens of thousands of vehicle suspensions. The exits at J14 and J15 will be shut for the duration of the northbound reconstruction, although a little surprised they have made the latter a long term closure rather than a medium term one, as the J15 entry was.

Looks like the A46 works still have some way to run: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-l ... 686823.amp

Went through Margaretting today, and already they have cleared most of the concrete northbound past the J14 and J15 exits. Signs state work is 70% complete, which is slightly ahead of the works at Marks Tey.

Over at Marks Tey, looks like they have almost finished rebuilding lanes 2 and 3 southbound, and are planning to move in to lane 1 by the 20th April for the final phase. J26 entry southbound will be closed for a month for the 20th, with the J25 exit set for its own extended closure later in the summer. Right now, in lane 2 and 3, there's just a few bits of kerbing, barrier and surfacing work to complete. It's looking now though that the scheme won't be complete until late summer and is very overbudget. It's certainly had some real challenges with the weather. I hope they don't try and put some weekend closures in when they add the final surface, as has happened on other schemes. The northbound closures last summer saw people stuck for hours, including in the nearby retail parks.
EDIT; Looks like nine weekend closures planned during the summer. Ouch.

It's near the end of an article in the Colchester Gazette:

"It means that there will be overnight closures almost every single evening from Monday, April 12 until Saturday, May 17.

Further works are expected over summer, with National Highways stating they have planned nine weekends of closures throughout June, July, and August."

It's presumably been lifted from one of the quarterly newsletters sent to local authorities etc. Unfortunately these don't seem to have been recently published on the NH website, and I can't seem to locate it anywhere, as the Gazette do have a habit of garbled or misleading parts of stories. Not sure why it's not mentioned at all on the main project scheme page on the NH website, only the forthcoming TM changes for the start of reconstructing lane 1 southbound?

Hopefully, if as seems likely, they have some weekend closures, hopefully they will sort something out regarding access out of the nearby new retail park, to avoid motorists being stuck for hours again, apart from daring to tell them to stay away! They did at least add temporary lights on the J25 roundabout after appalling queues on a hot summer's day for the first weekend closure last year.
