I’m glad I’m not the only one who has noticed Auto Shenanigans pop up on YouTube! I’m already subscribed to The Tim Traveller and Jago Hazard, so that obviously makes sense. I do enjoy his content and he does have a good mix of infotainment and humour, and the fact that he’s very aware of the road geek stuff is cool I guess.

Also, I never noticed the Gold Leaf monument near the M42 north of J10, but then I suppose I never looked out for it!

At the risk of going OT, I did pass over a brand new road I didn't know about until yesterday that, research shows, is on the route of the old link between the Great Central railway and the Great Western, to the west of Aylesbury. Digging into it, it's a "haul road", for construction traffic only, linking HS2 construction sites, and has to be returned to nature at the end of the build.
Sounds like the road from Akeman St up to the energy to waste plant at Greatmoor, that isn't a HS2 haul road.

Oh, you could well be right, my mistake. The one I saw fits your description.

The one I was reading about is this:

Forgive me if I am wrong but the narrator of this Learning Curve video and others about UK towns and cities sounds like our friend from Auto Shenanigans

Disagree, that sounds like a quite different voice.

Yep, the tone, intonation and style are quite different. He has a quicker pace, wider range and uses more slang and swearing.

I find his videos to be very informing, and i hope his excellent Secrets of the Motorways series extends to motorways in the north.

To be pedantic some more, ""The Carnival", was specially commissioned by ITV for the theme tune to ITV's holiday programme Wish You Were Here...?" apparently, so not quite the same as "Jessica" etc. Good tune though, brings back memories of 90s TV!

It is very joyful and suitable for this genre of YouTube video invoking travels, usually Judith Chalmers somewhere exotic and expensive. ''For a normal family of four, flying from Gatwick, it only costs £3000 each to stay at the Grand Hotel Central Square where they can dine heartily of plates made from Tyrannosaurus skulls'

If he is, he's remaining incognito.

Production quality is a bit weird there.

Dunno if it's autofocus, or something odd with image stablilisation, but most of his on-foot "to camera" pieces have odd in/out glitches. And even when not glitching it's pretty blurry.

The drone footage, on the other hand, looks great.

A shame he stopped at Durham, and didn't carry on to The Angel of the North, which I know isn't on the A1(M) but the A1(M) ends within sight of it.

His "abandoned motorway service station" on the A1(M) turns out to be an abandoned A-road Little Chef on the A64, so covering something on the A1 probably wouldn't have been too much of an editorial stretch!

I had assumed it was one of the pair that were just South of the A61 junction at Dishforth prior to widening, but looking at the map and sat photos now it looks like all trace is gone.

I wonder what might become of the site and whether it might be redeveloped at some point in the future. It's in a good location for the A64 as there aren't any other service nearby.

And back on topic, I am hoping he will feature more northern motorways in what I think is an excellent series of films.

Well, he's covered long motorways, short motorways, old motorways and new motorways, so he's showing no particular bias in his coverage. I don't think he's been to Scotland yet, but presumably that'll come at some point (he covered Wales in his motorway services series so I guess he'll be back to do M4). And I'd hope he has plans to visit Norn Iron, and maybe IRE as well.

I want him to do M50 (GB) soon.

It would need some reconfiguration of the access roads: it's only accessible eastbound and not from the M1 North - A64 East sliproad. To be viable it would need access and exit for all four directions.
