Direction sign with odd symbols

Any idea what this means ? Or is it a case of you'll know if you need to.

With their abundance in cities across the UK now, and the variety of zones, we really need some education into these signs for drivers. There's the LEZ (London), ULEZ, ZEZ, CAZ (A,B,C,D) and soon LEZ (Scotland)!

It seems like, as with road charging, there is zero appetite for developing unified and consistent systems on the road anymore. We can't even agree on a consistent colour for cycle lanes so what hope do we have with anything else?

I agree there should be some education for drivers, I think I know road signs better that most but had no idea what these meant. However I assume there is little or no consistence in what is allowed you named 8, I suspect there are/will be many more with each LA doing it slightly different.
Also I think it would be better if the shade of green was different to the primary route back ground colour.

I suspect every LA &/or Mayor wants to do it their way.

The powers to implement CAZs come from central government and part of that should have been a consistent signage strategy as - to be fair - seems to have been the case for congestion charging.

There are 4 types of CAZ. Pray you never encounter a D.

Patience is not a virtue - it's a concept invented by the dozy beggars who are unable to think quickly enough.

They're only an issue if you're running an older vehicle, petrol cars Euro 4 and later are ok.

That's what Bristol is about to get, isn't it?

Why would they create four categories and then confuse the matter by "the local authority may include motorcycles"?

Why not just have a category E for motorcycles as well as all other vehicle classes?

Because we wouldn't then be able to see people write foaming letters to the local rag about how hard done by they've been by the rules.
