Thank you for the reply.
Now I think about it, iirc the highest milage distance is 121 miles.

Re: Destinations by furthest RCS distance
This compares with 117 being the furthest distance to London on the M1 although London is stated at the start of the M1 east of Leeds, but with no distance which is a shame as it would have given the highest milage distances.Rillington wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 10:13 Thank you for the reply.

Close, but that's not the largest distance to London on the M1.Rillington wrote: ↑Sun Jun 18, 2023 22:12 This compares with 117 being the furthest distance to London on the M1 although London is stated at the start of the M1 east of Leeds, but with no distance which is a shame as it would have given the highest milage distances.
The largest distance to London on the M1 is London 121 at M1 J25 South, between Derby and Nottingham.
As for London appearing as a FD on the M1 from Leeds on the 1999 section, that was presumably a carryover from the 1960s and 1970s signage, when the entire M1 was signed to 'The South, London' (plus whatever the next major PD was), sometimes just 'London', on directional signs. If you are wondering why the 1999 section and the Aberford turnoff features London on the RCSs without a distance, my guess is that they were using 'London' as a quasi-regional destination, since 'The SOUTH' would be inappropriate in that area since the A1(M) is already signed to that, it would explain why it appears at the top of the RCSs.
I don't know if London was shown on the RCSs throughout the M1 South when it first reached Yorks in the 1960s, but I have a feeling it may have been, since the M4 used to have 'London 194' near its western terminus.
