As always, some really get into the spirit of the occasion, even if unknowingly.

Re: Diversions 2023
Then and now...
Has to be 2 at a time, as 3 wouldn't work. Any chance of 4 or even 6 pics per post?
Looking east, Star Hill can be seen in the distance. The blue dual c/way sign seems to be the only survivor from 1967, although the post for Hares Lane also seems to be standing alone.
The confusing HW sign is the 'You are now leaving' type.

Re: Diversions 2023
and finally.......
Trees now dominate and the WS2 has been narrowed, making the layby wider.
I may have made a mistake though, 131 photos here and 156 for the previous weekend. I should have taken more really

Re: Diversions 2023
The picture size and number of attachments per post is deliberately kept small, because pictures in forum posts quickly vanish into obscurity as forum discussions move on but the data attached to them fills up server space for ever more. If you want to upload more and bigger pictures, put them in the wiki, where they can be tagged, geolocated and categorised, which means they can be found easily rather than lost!

Re: Diversions 2023
I could delete them after a while, I can't imagine that pics of essentially traffic, will be of any interest in Wiki! Why not put a message somewhere asking everyone to delete pics after a while*
* a while could be 3 months? 6 Months?
Good job I haven't posted the approx 5000 diversion or overspill photos then.....

Out into the country now, near the Ely Hotel, looking towards the A327 rbt, where everyone turned left.

A nowadays rare piece of old road returned to the past on Saturday. A30 both ways from Daisy Mount Cross B3180/B3174 to M5. 6am to 12.30 w/bnd, 3pm e/bnd.
Changed Whimple photo to one that is closer to the 1997 pic

Re: Diversions 2023
The incident was between Exeter Airport and M5 yet w/bnd was diverted from Daisy Mount at the top of the hill near Ottery St Mary. No diversion signs but new clear direction signs put in for Cranbrook directing to M5 and Exeter. Fine until the Clyst Honiton bypass junction lights. Half followed signs to A30, only to return causing a solid queue back to the old road. Those of us who continued straight on found a busy but clearer route to J29. I obviously didn't get that far.....
Eastbound also had no clear direction back to the A30 which was via CH bypass. Half got caught up in the 'lost' w/bnd traffic. Half went straight on via Whimple to Daisy Mount and had a clear run..

The photo of the police Sierra with the smashed Escort at Jack in the Green is amazing.
How would you like your grade separations, Sir?

Re: Diversions 2023
It was the annual Traffic Jam Day on the old A30 between Exeter and Honiton, as the Beautiful Days Festival is now on near Fairmile. Thursday is arrivals day so, I was ready and waiting.....

Re: Diversions 2023
The official routes in were logically along the old A30 from both directions but, the e/bnd off-slip for Feniton was still open right by the entrance near the top photo. You were directed right to avoid queue jumping but, some had worked it out, some hadn't. The 2 on the left just U-turned around the corner to join the queue just where it turns off to go under the A30 and in to the site on the other side. The one going straight on will now have to go more than 2 miles to the back of the queue nearer to Whimple.

Re: Diversions 2023
A very quiet 2023 with only 1 week to go before Schools In.
Some incidents that are cleared up too efficiently, for me to get there in time. Most inconsiderate.
Being there just in case is a better strategy, as on Friday, when a breakdown closed 1 lane just before Whiddon Down, eastbound. Being a going home day, this caused a major hold-up....

Re: Diversions 2023
Being a one way overspill, traffic flowed smoothly, with only minor congestion at Sticklepath due to parking where double yellows used to be. Upon reopening at 14.30, the sudden tidal wave of freed traffic overwhelmed the M5 junction, which soon backed up to Tedburn, about 8 miles, leading to a second overspill via Pathfinder Village...
Re: Diversions 2023
Per traffic cameras, it appears that the M5 through J15 south and northbound has now been reduced from D2M to D1 in each direction (and will shortly be contraflow for the foreseeable) and as a result there is quite the dark red traffic snake emanating from within the junction today due to late holiday getaways I presume, moreso than usual, and I got caught in a constant stream of traffic diverting from J14 down the B-roads around Iron Acton. One of the perils of living so close to such a major junction complex during a roadworks year, I suppose. Peculiar that - I assume - one of the sat nav services is diverting people towards Yate rather than down the relatively clear A38, where there appears to be just some backing up at crossroad traffic lights at Tytherington. I can't even work out how one gets from the B4058 back to the M5 southbound in any efficient fashion, unless of course the traffic diverting that way was actually heading for the M4 East.
