I'm not a fan of the shade of pink they use either.

(Here is an example.)
Are you sure it's not simply a rather faded red?
No - Salford City Council's main corporate colour is a (in my opinion) dodgy shade of pink. They have their reasons I assume.

Noone else uses it nearby, and it is not red (united) or blue (city)?

I always assumed the choice of fluorescent pink was because it was extremely conspicuous; part of an overall branding strategy for a city eternally in someone else's shadow whose aim was to shout LOOK WE EXIST DON'T FORGET WE EXIST.

Fair enough, that does make sense.

I dare say you're right all the same - neither red nor blue would have been acceptable!

It is possibly a cross between the two.

My favourite one is a legacy Bolton MBC one - "A great place to do business". However, 'great' was in green, which faded over time.

"A place to do business", with pause for dramatic emphasis, was always a laugh when passing this sign on the bus.

That's just begging for some wag to fill in the gap with something uncomplimentary/rude.

I was going to say you'd forgotten "Bickerton Skoda - Ey Up Petal" but looking at GSV it seems to have gone, replaced by a "Put your corporate BS here" holding sign.

They're also the main sponsor of the York Community Stadium (formerly Monk's Cross), home of York City FC and York Knights RLFC... so I guess they're allowed to sponsor stuff?

LNER head office is in York so I guess it's not that unusual.

Good job they're all gone now with more appropriately designed signs that eschew stupid slogans.
