Newquay Strategic Route?
Should I have heard of this? A Network Rail press release says a railway bridge is being built for it. Includes a video.

Re: Newquay Strategic Route?
It is nothing special, basically it is a distributor road to open land up for development south east of Newquay.
Cornwall Council has details here
With route shown here and here .
It's Duchy of Cornwall development, the Cornish Poundbury

Re: Newquay Strategic Route?
Strategic is a strong word given the high street through Nansledan is very Dutch woonerf inspired. I've literally just come back from that way, so bugged that I'll be missing this.

Re: Newquay Strategic Route?
There's also the A392 which is currently being realined where it meets the A3075 although this is also to do with the new housing developments that are being built on the edge of the town
Re: Newquay Strategic Route?
Was just about to post that - this is the compact roundabout on a slope, very much hemmed in. Should be a useful little upgrade.roadphotos wrote: ↑Thu Oct 12, 2023 18:22 There's also the A392 which is currently being realined where it meets the A3075 although this is also to do with the new housing developments that are being built on the edge of the town
Re: Newquay Strategic Route?
It just so happens I drove a bit of it today..... There's a brand new roundabout open which is going to get a greggs and service area off, and I'm guessing a slight Re route of the A392 where it meet the A3075. Tall thin houses are appearing in cream coloured stone with billboards saying low cost housing... I didn't explore it all cause traffic was at a standstill north bound.

I meant to quote this comment in my last post.... Here is video of it so far. I think they have already renumbered the A392 as the A3075 when exiting town.

Re: Newquay Strategic Route?
Noted re the newer developments. Going back in time, does anyone local or indeed otherwise actually know when precisely the A392 was re-routed past Lane and then along the Gannel up to the new Mount Wise roundabout and it taking over part of the previous A3075 route to Mellanvrane? The entries on the A392, A3075 and A3058 which all cover part of this re-routing have, at my hand, vague dates of mid to late 1980s. I always say I know Cornwall quite well, but I didn't go every year and suddenly one year I just became aware that the little back route to Fistral I knew (Gannel Road/Tregunnel Hill) was now severed by a whopping great primary route.
Our Network Changes pages don't seem to cover this and I can't see anything else online. If someone has the dates, I can make the entries less vague.

Re: Newquay Strategic Route?
I also tried the Newquay Nostalgia Facebook Group for my question. A lot of replies, but even the locals have me none the wiser! But apparently there is a plaque to commemorate opening. I could look next time I'm there. I should also have said one of them is quoting my own work on a Sabre article! Circular references. Further edited to say. The plaque has been snapped. July 1990, is the answer.
Re: Newquay Strategic Route?
I've put up a video of a drive around the Back of Newquay which includes going though the centre of the New Town, Nansledan. It also shows point of two of the arms of the new distributor road. https://youtu.be/DablW9YgJ4Y
NEW TOWN • NANSLEDAN • up on the NW Edge of Newquay...... A drive around the back of Newquay via Lane & Quintrell Downs via A392 & A3058 through the new conurbation . Lots more building en-route too. +Train in the station!
New Nansledan road yet to be finished at 3:42 & 7:01
Shops being built on New roundabout at 7:25

Re: Newquay Strategic Route?
Shops being built around a roundabout.....it seemed odd to me and not convenient for shoppers either I think.
Re: Newquay Strategic Route?
I hired a bike and rode around Nansledan in September, there's plenty of parking on the side street off the roundabout for those who are driving but the aim of the town is to be somewhere you can walk around.
